The second-hand marketplace Members Express Frustration About Size Changes
Shoppers are voicing their frustration following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its size classifications for women's and children's garments without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Reaction
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification than originally posted because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
It has advised users to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Changes
Previously, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".
"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
